Let's face it, the software industry is full of hype. First, Web Services promised that they would change the way services were delivered at the start of the new millenium, and by the middle of the first decade we heard how Software as a Service would change how people would purchase software. Now as Cloud Services become widely adopted and provide an extremely scalable foundation, we are starting the realisation of the major paradigm shift that wa predicted more than 15 years ago.
People are finally starting to understand and trust the internet as reliable delivery platform for computing services, and an 'Internet of Things' is the new dream. Beyond the PC, the ubiqutios smart phone and the game changing tablet, is the promise of an 'always connected, always on' world of devices and the services to support them.
A lot of things have come together that make the time right, where it was not at the beginning of this decade. We're not looking into the face of a revolution as the marketers would like us to believe. Forget the hype, but don't dismiss the trend thats been building for over 15 years.
